प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने बुधवार को गुजरात के केवड़िया, नर्मदा में सरदार वल्लभ भाई पटेल की दुनिया की सबसे ऊंची प्रतिमा स्टैच्यू ऑफ यूनिटी का उद्घाटन किया. इस मौके पर एक विशाल जनसभा को संबोधित करते हुए प्रधानमंत्री ने उन आलोचकों को जवाब दिया जिन्होंने 'स्टैच्यू ऑफ लिबर्टी' बनाने पर सवाल खड़े किए थे. प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा, 'कई बार मैं हैरान रह जाता हूं, जब देश में ही कुछ लोग हमारी इस मुहिम को राजनीति से जोड़कर देखते हैं. सरदार पटेल जैसे महापुरुषों, देश के सपूतों की प्रशंसा करने के लिए भी हमारी आलोचना होने लगती है. ऐसा अनुभव कराया जाता है मानो हमने बहुत बड़ा अपराध कर दिया है.' प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि आज देश के लिए सोचने वाले युवाओं की शक्ति हमारे पास है. देश के विकास के लिए, यही एक रास्ता है, जिसको लेकर हमें आगे बढ़ना है. देश की एकता, अखंडता और सार्वभौमिकता को बनाए रखना, एक ऐसा दायित्व है, जो सरदार साहब हमें देकर गए हैं.
