Why do women like to wear tight jeans? Wouldn't they prefer to wear something more comfortable?

It's not the comfortable spandex I'm talking about. I know women wear spandex for comfort. But back before the spandex, why do women wear such tight jeans, as opposed to comfortable jeans?
